| Description: |
In this course, participants will learn the various techniques
for evaluating injuries to the hand. Topics covered include
evaluation of ROM (including differentiation between joint
or tendon restriction), Strength, sensation (including 2 PD,
monofilament testing, timed pick-up, vibration and others),
edema, as well as a simple psyche screening for PTSD. |
Objectives -
Upon completion of this course, participants will
be able to: |
- Describe guidelines for performing range of motion
measurements of the hand.
- Understand the impact that restrictions in various tissues
have on joint range of motion in the hand.
- Explain the correct positions and procedures for testing
grip and pinch strength.
- Explain the meaning of the finding of pain during resistive
testing versus weakness only.
- Describe two tests used to evaluate edema in the hand.
- Demonstrate the performance of the “Allens Test”
for circulatory function.
- Describe 4 tests of sensation.
- Describe 4 tests of hand function.
- Identify 3 findings common in patients who are experiencing
PTSD following injury to the hand.
